Adding to a Filter

Since I write mainly for full orchestra, I use the Instrument Filter very often for working on a specific group of instruments.

Is there a way to add an instrument to a filter? For example, if I am looking at flutes. clarinets, and high strings, and then realize I need to see the piano, if there a way to add the piano, or do I have to clear the filter and start over?

It would be a small thing if it didn’t happen several times a day.

A related thought: it is awkward to set up the filter. I need to select each staff I want, but in scrolling up and down, an accidental touch on the wrong staff messes things up. Let’s say I have selected two staves and now need to scroll. I usually click the Select arrow in the left pane so I can used shift+mouse to navigate because the Windows scroll bars are almost invisible. The least slip in this process selects a staff and un-selects the others.

Just click the three dots (meatballs menu) and add an instrument.

@konradh you can add a piano to the filter:

And, since you use often the filters, you can assign then with a specific key commands:

From manual:

  • You can assign key commands for up to ten instrument filter presets on the Key Commands page in Preferences. The instruments filtered by these commands vary in each layout and project.

This tip about managing filters is fantastic. I noticed something strange, however. I was in measure 30 of flow 3. I opened manage filters to add instruments, and this transported me to the middle of flow 2. Not a disaster, but definitely surprising.

Is there a reason for this? Thanks,
