Not something I use as such, but I noticed this is an option in the manual:
I’m a bit confused on this though. This does not seem to work at all for me, at least in the procedure as described in the manual. I also noticed it is not mentioned in Steinbergs tips:
I this a deprecated feature or am I just doing it wrong, or a preference that needs enabling?
I’d never heard of this before. I seems to be working as described here - double+clicking at the bottom of the list. But if you notice it only talks about MIDI & Audio Tracks and that’s all that it actually seems to work for. If I Select an Instrument Track, it creates a MIDI Track.
Ah I think I misunderstood the implementation. Yes it works when double-clicking at the very bottom of the track list or the upper section. I was trying to do it anywhere on the track list, with a track deselected. The wording in the manual is a little vague; would be better off describing this as at the bottom of the upper section or lower section as that is only area where there are no tracks.
So with this method it is only possible to add a new track to the end of the track list, nowhere else.
Right, which is the same behavior as using the Add Track dialog.
Basically the double+clipping behavior appears to be if an Audio Track is Selected an Audio Track gets created. But if any other type of Track is Selected then a MIDI Track is created. Seems kind of limited & inconsistent.
