Adding VST

I am getting into a project I completed in 2012. It was done with LE4

This is on a new computer. I want to load the VST plugins that I used for that project, but when I tried to load them into the CubaaseLE4\VSTPlugins subdirectory I got an access denied. Said I needed Admin rights. I have been away from this for awhile, so if I knew at one time, I am at a loss now.

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance

hello and welcome to the forum.

if you want help I would suggest you actually tell us what you want help with. At a minimum you should tell us what OS you are running, which Cubase version your are running and which vst plugins - and when do you get access denied. Because I have no idea if you are still on LE4, installing vst plugins or just loading the project.

Thanks for responding

OK. I am running Win10. As stated in the original post I am running LE4.

I loaded the projects. I started them (in LE4) and got error messages that several VST plugins that I had used in the projects originally could not be found. I found all of the plugins and attempted to just copy them to the LE4\VSTPluggins subdirectory. I am pretty sure that is how I did it originally, but it has been awhile.

I would think that this is strictly a windows issue and I can’t understand why admin rights would be required for s simple copy operation. In fact that is how the manual says to do it.

I am still trying to use LE4, simply because that is the version it was done in.

here is the error message I got.

I also have LE10 and LE11 loaded on this machine. I have the same issue with LE10 and LE11 doesn’t have the VSTPluggins subdirectory, so I have no idea where to put the .dlls if I were to try to use this version

so just give windows the permission to copy them by pressing continue

vstplugins is easiest kept in 1 folder and all DAW´s on your computer can get the plugins from the same location. if you are using vst2 you would need to let Cubase know where your folder is on your drive.

Did you try the “Continue” button (with the admin shield icon)?

That was too obvious. Hitting continue worked. I still don’t know why I got the message, but it worked, mostly. I still have one F/X that is causing problems. Widebug.

I loaded it just like the others. It just refuses to be detected. I deleted the file and then reloaded it. I tried moving it under a different subdirectory. Still nothing. Tried downloading a new copy from the web. No help.

Why won’t the program recognize it?

Hopefully this will be as easy as the last one.

Thanks to those who responded and thanks in advance to those who respond to this 2nd part

If VSTPlugins is a subdirectory of a Windows system directory (like Program Files, for example), then you will be prompted for admin access to write the files to that folder.
