Adjust length

In the midi editor, in both select mode and draw mode, you can adjust the note length by dragging the arrow icon on the right of the note. The problem is that you have to be ultra-extremely-mega precise to touch the arrow in the right point, otherwise the note is not lenghtened but it is moved. Its needed to (greatly) increase the area on the right end of the note for the “lenghten” function to be useful.

You can use the tools on the left side, select length and when it’s selected you can swipe left/right on a note (or anywhere on the screen when a note or notes are selected) to shorten or lengthen them.

Yes, this is how I do it. I was just suggesting to fix (or eventually discard) the other method because, as it is currently implemeted, its impossible to use.

Got it…

…the size of right side ‘hit zone’ for adjust note length is highly dependent on the current zoom level and could maybe adjusted a bit to make it easier to target with the finger.

I have not done any precise ‘pixel peeping’ on this but it feels like the last ~10% or so is used for the length hit-zone while the rest is general hit-zone for moving the note.

Suggestion to @LSlowak and the team would be that the note events get a 50/50 split in the middle so right side of the note is used to adjust the length and the left side is used to move the notes but it’s a tricky balance to hit and one way to fix this would be to be inspired by something like NanoStudio 2 and give the notes/selection dedicated ‘handles’ which when selected would allow easy modification of the selected note events.
(These handles could be used to directly transpose the selection up/down by either one octave or one semi-tone, extend/shorten the note to next/previous grid, nudge notes left/right or when grid is disabled nudge 1 or 10 ‘ticks’ left/right etc.).

Time will tell how things progress but one thing is certain that everything can be improved :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Exactly Samuel, this is what I mean. Actually, the lenght hit-zone is not always around 10%, but it depends on the zoom factor. Sometimes feels like 1%, but when very zoomed in, it’s actually even more than 50%. This adds to the confusion. As you mention, a split around 50/50 is ideal. It may be even 75/25 in my opinion, or something like that, but it should stay consistent at all zoom levels. As it is implemented now, it is usable only at very high zoom levels, which I personally almost never use.

I dont know how NanoStudio2 works, but from your description it looks like an intereseting idea.

Anyway, in conclusion: for me it’s fine as Cubasis works now. I just suggest @LSlowak either to fix the “length hit-zone” size, or even to discard this function. I understand the concept of a simple, streamlined, user friendly, DAW for tablets/phones with not too many confusing functions and options. And I like it very much. But the functions we have, better either to work properly and simply, or to be discarded (especially if there is another simple way to do it, like in this case).

Hi @Samuel_Lindeman

Your suggestion has been shared with our engineering.
