I am adjusting the start and end times of some of my notes (sounding, not notation). Sometimes it works for me to drag the end time of a note earlier, but sometimes, the note just snaps back into place after I drag. (Different notes behave differently). What am I missing? How can I get the snapping notes to stop?
Are the ones that snap back sounds (like piano or percussion) controlled by velocity rather than sustained tone?
No. They’re all string instruments (bowing always). In the same part, in one section they don’t snap, and in another they do.
Interesting. I stumbled upon this behaviour a couple of times, and of course I always forget what was causing it. Can you upload a Dorico file that shows the issue?
Sure- here’s the spot where it’s not working. I’m trying to pull the end of the first notes of the gliss earlier, and the start of the second one earlier as well. I can move the start of the second notes earlier, and I can also move the ends of the second notes earlier. But when I try to adjust the ends of the first notes, they snap right back in place.
Not included here is another spot where it works as I want it to. Same texture, instruments, context etc.
note length ex for forum.dorico (1.3 MB)
actually, I realize I can’t adjust the start OR end time of the first notes…
Ok - I’ve managed to solve the problem, without really understanding why it works. If I highlight the gliss markings and “suppress playback” on each, I can get it done (I’m using a 3rd party library and not using internal dorico gliss playback of any kind, so that’s not a problem).
But I didn’t need to do it in both places, curiously.
