Big fan here. I’ve been using Nuendo for years, and I have to say: hats off! The way you continuously improve the workflow for film composers is truly impressive.
But… (yes, there’s a “but”)
As an advertising composer and producer, I sometimes feel a bit forgotten. Our workflow is different, faster paced, more versioning, more client revisions, tighter deadlines, and there are a few small but powerful improvements I’ve been hoping for since Nuendo 12/13 that would make our lives a lot easier:
Allow export video naming with “Replace Audio in Video” using the cycle marker name.
Let’s say I have the same video duplicated 6 times on my timeline, each with a different music cue and a different cycle marker name. When I export using “Replace Audio in Video,” Nuendo won’t use the marker name to name the file. Instead, it generates “VIDEOabc -01”, “VIDEOabc -02”, etc. This leads to confusion and unnecessary manual renaming. Why not let us use the marker’s name to differentiate the versions directly?
Auto-name cycle markers after the video file names.
When I have 25 videos stacked in a session, each with its own cycle marker, I have to manually copy each video’s file name into the marker’s name. It’s a time-consuming and error-prone process. A simple option to auto-name the marker after the video it’s referencing would save hours on bigger projects. Or maybe “create cycle marker/s for selected event/s” where it creates the markers automatically and name it after its respective audio/video event.
More flexible naming scheme in final export.
I use the “Version” field in the marker window religiously (v1, v2, v3.2, etc.). I want to be able to name audio exports using the marker name and the version field. Currently, I have to include the version inside the marker’s name/description manually, because it’s the only field Nuendo allows us to use in the export naming scheme. Could we please have more export naming tokens to include things like version, ID, etc.?
These may sound like small features, but they’d go a long way in streamlining the crazy-fast world of ad music production.
Thanks for all the work you do, and fingers crossed these requests make it into an upcoming update!
yep agreed on Number 1 - I’ve asked for this one a few times. Hoping the more people mention it may get it in the next update.
As for Number 2 this should be already possible by using “Create markers from events” found in project tab. It also has some different naming conventions available.
Number 3: is a good idea. I think we need some kind of extra Marker properties that can link to edit snapshots or something - for e.g selected tracks, track versions, zooms, which events are muted etc within the cycle location etc. Would be awesome feature.
Thanks a lot for your answer! That “Create Cycle Marker(s) for Selected Event(s)” tool is going to save me so much time… really appreciate it!
As for the marker question, I think I might not have explained myself very well. I was actually referring to the marker column attributes. I usually go into Define User Attributes and create a custom column called VERSION (Type: Number) just to keep track of the endless versioning we go through, especially when working on 30 or 40 videos in one timeline (ah, clients… ). I also like to add another column for DATE so I can stay sane while delivering.
Right now, though, when exporting tracks, the Naming Scheme only allows up to 9 attributes (picture attached), which sadly doesn’t include any of those custom marker columns. So I can’t automatically name the file using the VERSION column, which would be super helpful.
So at the moment, I just include the version number manually in the Cycle Marker Description field to keep things clear when exporting. Which is not a problem at all!
But it would be amazing if Steinberg could expand the attribute list or let us pull in user-defined ones.
