Yesterday, My Windows 11 computer upgraded to version 24H2. Today, my Cubase 9.5 will not start. I have tried the following:
(1) I downloaded the latest eLicenser and ran maintenance. All 6 steps say OK (I have a USB eLicenser).
(2) When starting, Cubase 9.5 gets to Initializing VST Audio System and then I get a message from Windows that Cubase 9 has stopped working. If I click on “Debug” it says "An unhandled win32 exception occurred in [15184] Cubase9.5.exe.
Can anyone help me? Thank you.
You could try to delete all your preferences and start “fresh”. Maybe that will help. I guess there is a chance that Cubase 9.5 has compatibility issues with latest Windows 11 update too, I don’t know. I run Cubase 14 just fine on latest Windows, but I did a clean install of everything. I know some users have problems going to Windows 11 24H2 via the upgrade route.
Downgrade back to an earlier Windows version where your Cubase 9.5 works, then use this for the time being:
24H2 borked my RME driver. You could try to reinstall your audio device?
Thank you, Teo. This is a possible solution but it comes with its own potential long-term problems if windows decides not to support previous versions the way Steinberg has decided that they will not support Cubase 9,5,
Hello Transistor: Cubase balks when it reaches “installing VST Audio System” but Steinberg refuses to give me any information on the topic because they will not support Cubase 9.5 at this point. Can anyone tell me what to re-install with regard to “VST Audio System”? I don not have any other hardware attached to my computer when I am running Cubase.
Try to reinstall the driver for your soundcard
If you have an image of your sistem with w11 23H2 restore it.
Agreed. But if you insist on using 9.5, then lack of support comes with the baggage. The only way is to upgrade your Cubase version.
