Again group editing didn't fully work - what's best practice to recover?

I have two mono tracks of the same instrument (amped and DI) put in a group with activated group editing and I’ve spent a few hours comping all the takes.

Now I’ve just noticed, that nuendo only applied most, but not all of my edits to the DI track.

Is there any way to automatically apply my selection to the DI track? I mean all the information is there on the first track. It shouldn’t be too hard to create a function that applies a selection of takes to another track with exactly the same structure, right?

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Duplicate the “good” track, freeze the original track, Shift-drag the second audio file from the Pool on one of the edited events of the duplicated track, click “Replace All”, un-freeze the original.

Thank you very much for that advice.

Should I leave “group editing” switch on during that process?

EDIT:

I just tried. The duplicated track is exactly like I wanted it to be. But despite the freezing, the original track has been changed too (at un-freezing it asked whether I want to keep freeze-files and I chose yes). Any idea, what I could have done wrong?

I will try again tomorrow.

So far it doesn’t work for me.

Duplicate the “good” track

No Problem with that

freeze the original track

Nuendo asks about tail size and I keep the default 0. All events on the original track now have a lock symbol.

Shift-drag the second audio file from the Pool on one of the edited events of the duplicated track

I’ve opened the pool window. Just to be clear: Holding shift there turns on multiple selection, so I start dragging one file and hold shift while dropping.

click “Replace All”

When I click “Replace All” the events in the original track change too (despite lock symbol).

un-freeze the original

I’ve tried both options. Delete freeze file and keep them. Neither changed the track back to its original state. Dublicate and original are now the same with the changed audio files.

I’ve tried all of that several times. With group editing on/off. I’ve tried moving the tracks out of their folder. I’ve tried freezing and disabling the original track. The result on the dublicated track, is exactly what I’m looking for, but no matter what I try, I’m losing the original track. I get all the changes on my DI track, but losing the Amped track.

How do I make nuendo apply those changes only to the dublicated track and not to both tracks???

EDIT:

Is that expected behaviour? What version of Nuendo are you using? Mine is 14.0.41 already checked for updates, but seems to be most recent.

I have to admit that it’s been a while since I used the workaround described in my first reply, sorry. If Freezing wasn’t part of the solution, then I would simply save a Track Archive of the “good” track and re-import it after exchanging the content of the duplicated one. You could also save the Project itself, save it again as a new version, do the exchange, and import the original “good” version.

… many ways to skin the cat.

Thank you very much. Saving the track events to XML and importing the track archive solved the remaining issue for me!

Being able to create a DI track from the comped Amped track and also keep the Amped track has saved me a lot of time.
