Everywhere they have posted, the anticipated feature of MS5 is AI integration, same with Audacty. In addition, they’ve had job postings for AI engineers. Also, I took meetings with MuseGroup at NAMM last year and discussed some of their plans for the future.
Muse Group used to be called Ultimate Guitar—now, UG is a division of the rebranded company. It’s a privately held Russian company HQ’d in Cyprus. Their products and brands include Ultimate Guitar, MuseScore, Audacity, Hal Leonard, Audio.com, MuseHub, MuseScore Studio, Tonebridge and Staffpad. Hal Leonard, the largest music publisher in the world, was a $xxBillion cash acquisition in 2023.
Although there are paid in-app add-ons, Audacity and MuseScore are free and will remain so because they are the gateway drugs to Muse Group, a very profitable enterprise that understands all the real money in the music business is in publishing and music rights. They are not going the way of NI any time soon.

And private equity’s goal is to be profitable–for private equity. That often means screwing over new acquisitions to fund their profit. When the parts sell-off begins, you’ll know the end is near. This has happened more times than you can count, because it’s their standard MO.

well exactly! I find ChatGPT often very useful for getting technical information about software (including Dorico) as it’s frequently far quicker than any manual but I’d never dream of asking it about anything aesthetic – or for that matter political issues.
Recognizing and subsequently applying (i.e. learning) what you changed multiple times and what you ignored in proof reading but also e.g. when you split a 1/4 rest more than let us say 3 times in two 1/8 rests or a similar split of notes without having to search in the options or set a complicated metrum is something which would indeed be very helpful.
I just tuned into this discussion. Read the whole thread. Fascinating. Sometimes, I get reminded, at how big and wide the musical arts are, and how different some of us are. All respect to everyone. But the idea of an AI “checking” my music, sounds to me, like an actual Blade Runner dystopian nightmare. If you wanted to make a Black Mirror episode that kept me up at night, then this is, quite literally, the scariest poughkeepsie you could come up with. And yet there are people on this thread who are getting all jazzed up and excited by it. That is wild. A robot standing over my shoulder telling me what’s wrong with my music? That is the concept you’re proposing right Geirsol? Wow. It’s a wild world we live in.
Granted, I like the idea of Dorico learning my habits, or understanding how to act on them. I prefer some notational things that are ‘incorrect’. And I seem to have to manually alter them every score, because they are not 100% of the time, just like 90%. Big value rests in meters where they often get broken up, and stuff like that to keep things cleaner. I have my way. If Dorico learnt that, it would be cool to some how get it to take care of certain tasks, when I ask it to. “Hey dorico, fill up all the rest spaces in the 12/8 signature, with the biggest value rests possible, except for the passage between measures 79-94”
Hehe. Yes, nice that we are so diverse, both in music and in human tech prefrences.
So, what I propose is not much different than your word AI-assistant: Spell-cheking, grammar-checking and so on.
Now, I know a few people that would decline using AI for any of this. But, for many of us, this is just a very helpful tool.
I agree. It’s lovely. The broad spectrum of interest and desires in art and art practice.

Good lord. I’ll accept AI in dorico before I’ll accept OBAA was bad.

So just to get that right. There are, right now, battlefields on this planet where ‘AI’ is used to provide military forces with inexhaustible target lists. But your nightmare scenario is that an algorithm points out a parallel fifth to you?
The short answer to your question would be, yes.
