I agree with all the topics in this thread; looking forward to the implementation of these graphical elements in Dorico, but trusting the wise team at head office to do things right, and that it takes time…
I’m curious to check out some of these user solutions/workarounds to contemporary notation that have been posted (in this thread and others). Would any of you consider posting a Dorico file instead of the screenshot?

And absolutely right…I can’t figure out how to attach the line to the empty bar.
Add the playing technique from the caret and then extend with Alt+Shift+Right. You need to do this in Write mode.

FYI, there is a workaround to create boxes that will move with the music. Simply create shift-X text with a border and a bunch of blank spaces inside. The dimensions of the box can be adjusted by changing the number of spaces and/or the font size for the blank spaces.
This is absolutely huge, I will have to try this now.
