Hello-
I am a Finale user trying to switch to Dorico. I downloaded Elements trial version. I created a piece for Orff xylos and temple blocks. The Glock/SX/BX all play fine. The alto xylo only plays from second space A and above. The lower 5 notes do not sound. The temple blocks don’t play at all. I have not tried other unpitched yet. I’m guessing there is a setting I need to change? I have tried reinstalling HALion Sonic 7 again. I also get this message when starting new projects: “The current preset or project was created with a previous version of HALion Sonic If you modify the preset using new features of this trial version, a previous version might not be able to load it or the preset might sound different.”…not sure if this is related or not. I also tried online chat, which only sent me to this forum. If you could please advise. Thank you so much!
The warning you’re seeing from HALion Sonic will go away when you have a permanent Dorico license activated on your system. Or, if you wish, you can get a free HALion Sonic license, and activate that on your system, so that HALion Sonic itself is not also running as a trial along with Dorico.
Which playback template do you have chosen in Play > Playback Template? If you’re using one of the playback templates that uses Iconica Sketch, I think the issue with e.g. the alto xylophone will be that the sampled range of the xylophone in Iconica Sketch does not extend to the full range of the alto.
I changed the playback template and can now hear the alto xylo. It was on the sketch. Thank you!!!
What do I do to hear all of the unpitched percussion? Is there another setting to hear all instruments?
Thank you
Susan
As a Finale user, you have the option of crossgrading to Dorico Pro at a very preferential price, which includes a broader set of sounds than Dorico Elements: in particular, it includes HALion Symphonic Orchestra, which includes a full set of temple block sounds.
I suggest you try the Dorico Pro trial version, and try applying one of the playback templates that includes HSO as well as Iconica Sketch.
Good morning! I had intended on purchasing the pro version, the price you are giving us is great, but my MacBook has 8 GB of ram and the specs on the pro said it needs 16. That is why I was trying out elements.
To make sure I am understanding, can elements only play 4 instruments at a time? Or are there certain instruments that can’t be in combination with others?
Thanks
The issue is that the sounds that come with Dorico Elements don’t include a full set of temple blocks – these sounds are only included in HALion Sonic Selection, which is only included with Dorico Pro.
If Dorico Elements runs OK on your system, Dorico Pro will as well.
Thank you so much for taking the time to give me this information!
So how much RAM does the Pro take? I would love to use it but don’t want my laptop to slow its processing if it takes much of the memory…
Also, here are some odd things- the conga doesn’t play with the Orff xylos but does play on another composition for unpitched. The congas, plural, do work. The ratchet, bass drum, vibraslap, and rain stick also don’t play. Are all of these only true for elements?
Thanks again!
