All instruments sound as a piano

I am very new to Dorico and have started a project with trumpet, French horn, trombone, and organ. Every instrument’s sound is that of a piano. Thoughts?

Welcome to the forum.

Simply applying the Auto playback template (Play>Playback Template… and choose the Auto option) should set the best sounds for your instruments (depending on which version of Dorico you are running).

BUT… it is very unusual for every instrument to sound as a piano in the first place!

If this doesn’t work for you, we may need to enquire further about your set up.

Thank you! I am running Dorico 6 Pro. I just did that but the sounds continue to be piano only.

OK. Can you upload a score so we can see how you have set things up? (It just needs a couple of bars, not the whole thing)

I would, but Dorico won’t even launch on my computer now.

You can upload the project file without having Dorico open – just drag it from File Explorer or the Finder into the message editing window.

If Dorico is not launching, then it’s likely that Dorico and/or the audio engine are still running in the background. On Windows, you can launch the Task Manager and kill the Dorico and VSTAudioEngine processes. (I don’t know what the equivalent is on Mac.) Or you can just reboot your computer.

Thank you. I’m going to take a break from Dorico for now and come back next week.
