I don’t know what happened. I downloaded a bunch of programs as part of the update, and I thought everything would be seamless when I opened up any of my previous files, but when I click on VST instruments, none of them are there except for Halion Sonic. I hope there’s an easy fix. Can anyone help? I have nothing else there.
Sorry to hear that, Jess. Is Dorico showing you any errors when you first start it up? Can you do Help > Create Diagnostic Report and attach the resulting zip file here? It might give some clues as to what is going on.
I am not getting any diagnostic errors. Also, when I try to add the BBCSO file, which I have on my desktop, I get a message asking if I want to override it, so I think it must be there somewhere, but the only thing that shows up when I click on VST on the Play page is Halion Sonic. And yet when I look at the Clarinet, on that same piece it says Iconica. So apparently Iconica is still there somewhere, but I am at a loss how to find it. I attached a couple of screen shots. Maybe you can make sense of them.
Thanks,
Jess
Iconica Sketch is sound content that loads into HALion Sonic. Can you do Help > Create Diagnostic Report and attach the resulting zip file here so I can take a look and see whether any other VST instruments are being detected on your system?
Here is a zip file of the diagnostics. Also, I notice that when I click on Playback template, I can see all of the templates. I added BBCSO with piano (someone had sent that to me a while back) and when I choose that and Piano, I get no playback and next to the piano are !! in front and behind.
It’s all a mystery to me.

Jess, you don’t seem to have any plug-ins from Spitfire Audio installed on your computer. I wonder whether perhaps you downloaded a playback template or possibly a project file that is designed to be used with BBC Symphony Orchestra – but that doesn’t provide you with the sound library itself. If you want to use BBC Symphony Orchestra, you have to buy it separately from Spitfire Audio and install it on your computer:
It’s not cheap, however, and it requires a powerful computer. You might want to stick with the sounds provided with Dorico itself for the time being.
Maybe this will help a little. I found the BBCSO template and chose it. Then I assigned Bassoon and Piano and played a few notes. They recorded, but there was no playback, and as you can see, there are !! in front and back of both instruments. I’m sure this can be figured out, but I’m at a loss.
Thanks for anything you can do.
Jess
Hi @Jess_Platt, as Daniel already told you: you cannot hear any sounds, if you load the BBCSO but you don’t own and install the BBCSO Sound Library, and the Spitfire Audio Player. The two !! symbols means that Dorico cannot find the plugin required by your Playback template, and it cannot find it because you probably didn’t purchase and install the BBCSO and the Spitfire player.
I’ve always had the Spitfire Audio BBCSO until I did the new download. Did it get wiped out somehow? I’ve had it for a few years and always used it on Finale before I bought Dorico.
Dorico itself won’t have removed it from your system. I suggest you sign in to your account on the Spitfire web site and you should find links there to download the products you’ve previously purchased.
I am in the process of trying to get it back. I never deleted it. Somehow in the process of updating, it got deleted. I am trying to get it back from Spitfire right now.
