Alla breve

I have an arrangement, it’s 4/4,1 so 4/4 with a quarter note upbeat, and it’s finished. Now I want nothing changed, just the 4/4-sign has to become a C with a line, so 2/2. When I try that, everything changes and I don’t want that.

Try cutc,0.5

If you’re changing from 4/4 to 2/2, then the duration of your pickup also changes, from a full beat to a half a beat.

Jaaaa! Thank you, that is fabulous! (That’s what tantacrul meant by “doing calculus” sometimes when changing something in Dorico! I forgot to do the calculus. I love calculus, and I love Dorico by the way!)

Not at all. It is just understanding the meaning of musical symbols and how these are created in Dorico.

That’s your opinion. I’m greatful for this forum where I find people like asherber who help people who are not perfect, like me. Watch the movie of Tantacrul about Dorico on youtube. At some things, he really has a point, and of course, when fully familiar with Dorico, you forget the littlte strange things you have to do exactly the way Dorico wants you to do them, to get the desired result, but if you’re more a creative than a disciplined person (like me) it can be like taking a math exam sometimes. Ans still I’m very happy Dorico replaced Sibelius in my daily routine.

You should find that using the “Use common time note grouping” property will make Cut C act just like C.

Wauw, this is great info! Thanks! For me that solves the strange behaviour of the “dotted half notes/halve note tied to quarter”-thing. I know I can solve these things in the “rules” but I’m taking small steps there, I’m not that accomplished.
