Could I ask for advice please. When I change the property of an item in the score (in this case flipping the tuplet bracket from below to above the notes) the change is not reflected in the part layout. Is this normal, or do I have to change a setting somewhere? Am I strange in wanting the part layouts to mimic the score?
You probably made a local change to that property.
Read about the difference between global and local here
The Properties panel has a switch marked “Local / Globally”.

If this is set to “Globally”, then any property change from then on will apply to all layouts. If it’s set to Locally, then it will only apply to that layout.
You may want some things, such as fine tuning adjustments of slurs and text objects, to affect only the given layout; and other things might want to apply to all layouts.
The Edit menu has a Propagate Properties command, which disseminates properties to all layouts.
Ah, of course, thankyou both.
When you say “all layouts” I’m confused. If I make a change to a tuplet on the 1st Trombone staff in the score with properties set to “Globally”, will it affect every layout? I only want it to affect the 1st Trombone layout.
I guess that’s ‘all layouts on which the item of which you change the property is visible’ ![]()
So the tuplet bracket in the trombone staff is visible in the full score layout and the trombone part layout, but won’t have an effect on the trumpet part
Every Layout that includes the 1st Trombone player.
Thankyou, that clears it up for me. I don’t think I’ve ever had a project where I’ve had to include an instrument/player on more than one part, but I understand there might be situations where that isn’t the case. I think I was misunderstanding the terms “Locally” and “Globally”. From now on I will think of them as “Score Only” and “Score and Layout”.
…unless you’re making the change while viewing the part layout, in which case they are “part only” and “score and part”.
I understand the terms Local and Global now! ![]()
