An essential component used by Dorico for playback has not been found

Before opening Dorico, but after the license refresh, open the download assistant. It should appear there ready to download.

Hi @DanMcL , could you please post a diagnostics report then.

And in a Command Prompt window please copy & paste the command:

dir /S /Q /N C:\ProgramData\Steinberg\Content > %userprofile%\Desktop\SMTGContents.txt

and post that SMTGContents.txt as well. Thanks

Thanks, that’s sorted. The problem was with the download assistant which failed to load Etude.

C:\Users\Dan>dir /S /Q /N C:\ProgramData\Steinberg\Content > %userprofile%\Desktop\SMTGContents.txt
The system cannot find the path specified.

But looks like you want a listing (not sure about all those flags but the directory is writable by me) …

Dorico Diagnostics.zip (2.3 MB)

Thanks - I’m probably doing a goof somewhere

Yes, Dan, please do again with this line:

dir /S /Q /N C:\ProgramData\Steinberg\Content > %userprofile%\Desktop\SMTGContents.txt

Same result - the CR was just because I showed it as text in the post

hold on I just put it in my home dir - that command doesn’t work with OneDrive

Sorry, was my mistake, a % was missing. Try again with this

dir /S /Q /N C:\ProgramData\Steinberg\Content > %userprofile%\Desktop\SMTGContents.txt

I just threw it in my home dir, and the forum can’t handle .txt, many thanks

SMTGContents.zip (7.2 KB)

Hi Dan, thanks for the file. Actually it shows me that the Etude Elements is not installed with you. At least not at the correct location.

Sorry what are you saying? Where is it in the Download assistant, I scrolled through it and didn’t find it …. ok did a third look and found it this time, installing. Like I said a goof, but to be fair its not obvious. Thanks -

For people running into this

  1. Shift-Refresh in License Manager

  2. Start Download Assistant and install Etude Elements from this location (the ‘Elements’ got cut off the icon name’)

It’s the license manager that’s at fault. It doesn’t show Etude after a Shift+reset so everyone is left scratching their heads …

No worries, easy enough fix

I can’t get this to work at all - can someone give a fix that doesn’t involve poking about with endless programs and hoping?
Sorry to sound jaundiced, but I’m on a Mac, and I’ve tried all the advice here and I still can’t see how to rid myself of this. Can something be updated so we can re-download it?

Well during the installation of Etude on my laptop it froze at the end and got stuck. Turns out this really messed with the installation, Dorico became unauthorized and a bunch of other necessary libraries (e.g Ionica Sketch) are missing - probably just misconfigured. Sigh … well I’ll just reinstall everything from scratch

It really should be as simple as this:

  1. Quit Dorico.
  2. Run Steinberg Activation Manager (hereafter “SAM”).
  3. Hold the Shift key down, and click the “refresh” button in the top right corner.
  4. Wait for the progress spinner at the bottom of the SAM window to disappear. (Now your Dorico 6 license has been updated to include the entitlements for Etude Elements.)
  5. Run Steinberg Download Assistant (hereafter “SDA”).
  6. In the left-hand panel, navigate first to Dorico, then to Dorico Pro 6.
  7. In the list of download choices on the right, you will see Etude Elements. Click the Install button.
  8. Wait for the progress bar to turn green and show a checkmark in it. (Now the Etude Elements sound content is installed properly.)

If in step 7, the button doesn’t say Install, that suggests the content has already been installed. Run Steinberg Library Manager and check that Etude Elements is listed under the HALion tab.

If it’s not shown there, go to the Downloads folder on your computer, and look inside:

Steinberg/OSX/Etude Elements

In there you should see two files:

SMT_021_Etude_Elements_Presets.vstsound SMT_022_Etude_Elements_Samples.vstsound

Double-click one of them (only one!) to launch SLM and install the sounds. Check in SLM that the content is now correctly appearing.

Now run Dorico 6.1, and start a new project based on the Solo Piano template. If the Auto playback template is applied, Etude Elements should be loaded as the piano sound. Go to Play mode and show the HALion window to make sure. If it’s not loaded, go to Play > Playback Template and apply the Auto playback template.

Thank you Daniel. I also commented on another thread, where I posted that I had finally been successful. My sincere apologies for leaving this one open, and inadvertently causing you work. I still don’t know what the issue was, but a reboot of my machine sorted it out.

Same issue, really need some help. Here is my error + Diagnostic

VSTAudioEngine5.exe.16792 (2).zip (1.9 MB)

Welcome to the forum.

Start Dorico and do Help>Create Diagnostic Report. Then post the zip file (called Dorico Diagnostics) that is created on your desktop.

The diagnostic file is too large to upload…..

Dorico Diagnostics (3).zip (2.2 MB) Had to use 7 zip
