"An essential component used by Dorico for playback has not been found"

I am attempting to install Dorico on a desktop PC at my school and tomorrow will be trying to help teachers transition from Finale to Dorico.
Steinberg Download Assistant says that all components have been installed, but when I run Dorico, I don’t hear any audio on playback. When I start Dorico, it says “An essential component used by Dorico for playback has not been found.” And it claims that I need to install:
HALion Sonic SC3- Content
Indian Drum Basics
Groove Agent SE5- Content
Olympus Choir Micro
Iconica Sketch
HALion Symphonic Orchestra

Please help! Thanks!

Here’s the error message

Dorico Diagnostics.zip (263.2 KB)
And here’s the diagnostic file

And you’ve definitely installed those things?

Here’s what download assistant shows me. I installed all the items available for Dorico 5

Since you are at a school, I suppose that you did not have enough access rights to install the contents files.
I can help you most likely with that, but it is not something that I can do in 5 minutes. Probably it’s best to have a remote session.

The IT department did give my account “temporary administrator” permissions, I don’t know if that helps. I am available right now for a remote session if that is possible.

Ulf, I am so thankful for your help via remote session! The issue was relatively easily solved, but would have been difficult to explain by messaging on a discussion board. Thank you!

Ulf, I am in a similar situation with Dorico. I get this message when running Dorico.

An essential component used by Dorico for playback has not been found.

This component is installed by the Dorico application installer. Please quit Dorico, run the Steinberg Download Assistant and reinstall the Dorico Application installer.

I have reinstalled that and nothing has changed with the message. I work at a college in IT and I am installing this in a Music Lab.

Any help is appreciated

Mike

Hi @MikeA1 , welcome to the forum.

Can you please post a screenshot of the alert dialog that you get?
And also do from the menu Help > Create Diagnostic Report.
If you are not allowed to attach here the corresponding zip file, then instead please send via mail to u dot stoermer at steinberg dot de
Thanks

Hi Ulf,

I just sent you the diagnostic files.

Mike

Hi @MikeA1 , could you please check? Nothing has arrived so far.

Hi Ulf,

I just resent it. I had your email wrong.

Hi @MikeA1 , thanks for the data.
Now, from the logs and things I deduce that the Groove Agent is missing. It does not get scanned or put on the blacklist.
You say that it is installed, so please go to the folder
C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\Steinberg

Is there a subfolder called Groove Agent SE.vst3 ?

And if you navigate further the file Contents\x86_64-win\Groove Agent SE.vst3 ?
If there is then please check the properties of that file, especially the security attributes.
Does any user have the right to read and execute that file?

Yes, any user has the rights to read and execute that file.

And what if you temporarily move the folder

C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\Steinberg\Groove Agent SE.vst3

up one level, i.e. into the VST3 folder?
And what if you then start Dorico again? Still no luck?
