Why am I unable to modify an existing template? When trying to overwrite the old template I get “An existing template with this name already exists”.
It’s just a warning – you can continue, and Dorico will overwrite the existing one with your changes.
But the option for “Save” is greyed out, only “Cancel” is possible.
I’m not at my Dorico computer to check but I believe you can’t overwrite a default template in its default category. If I remember correctly you have to create a new category first, like @asherber did in his screenshot.
I filled in the fields with a factory category and name, and Save was still enabled – but I didn’t actually click the button to test!
I’ve got my own category and the Save is still greyed out
If you use an existing category name Dorico will create a new category folder with this name - at least that’s what it did in my case. As a result I now have two categories with exact the same name “Kammermusik” (maybe chamber music in the English version)
That’s another thing that’s driving me crazy. It would be so much easier if you could see all your templates as a list when you want to “save” or “save as”
Agreed, this dialog could be improved.
