A different vst plugin manager bug: custom plugin collection will always auto-expand all plugins in all folders when trying to add a new insert effect.
Steps:
Make sure to have one active custom plugin collection configured via vst plugin manager
Open an existing Cubase project
Click on “edit” in any one track and try to insert new insert effect
Custom plugin collection will show, however with all folders and plugins automatically expanded
This requires a lot of scrolling or manually closing all custom plugin collection folders - see screenshot - very annoying
Note: in the vst plugin manager, ofc I have all folders “closed” in my custom plugin collection!
Workaround:
Don’t insert new insert effect right away; instead:
Click on little arrow on right top area of “insert new insert effect” dropdown
Select “standard” plugin collection
Then select your custom plugin collection again
Then the folders will be closed so no scrolling required
Cannot confirm that, I have a custom collection, and it always opens all closed, regardless of where I open the dialog.
BTW, do you know that you can collapse/expand the whole tree with the little +/- signs left to the search box?
I am aware it may be harder to track down a bug that may not show on all systems; for me however it’s a constant bug that occurs all the time (100% reproducable with the steps mentioned above). Happy to provide logs to Steinberg in case its getting looked at
Does this also happen if you keep the “standard” collection as the default?
Did you try the “start Cubase in safe mode with preferences disabled” thingy? Maybe it’s something that got saved in your defaults.xml.
So here’s the thing why I do think it really is a bug. Been trying to hunt this down during the last days but to no avail; unfortunately keeping the “standard” collection as default did not alter the issue; neither did starting in safe mode.
In this short screen recording you can see that depending on the insert slot number, Cubase randomly shows my custom plugin collection with all folders closed, and randomly shows them with all folders opened.
e.g. insert 1 - closed, insert 3 - closed, insert 6 - open, insert 8 - open, and so on
That does look random, yep. I still cannot reproduce it at all. I am on WIn10, though, although I am not sure whether that could make a difference in this case. Weird.
