Any MIDI / button for rolling presets for any VST (idea described)

Whenever you open any VST and want to find inspiration with presets you need to find a button that scrolls forward/backward presets. Even when you find it you need to press the UI button and then back to your MIDI keyboard to play.

REQUEST: Add an easy possibility to assign MIDI /button action to scroll your presets forward/backwards for any VST. Should save these global preferences in DAW for all projects.

HOW TO USE (idea):

  1. Load any VST and open its window.
  2. Press a little icon button at the top of the window (RMB) to start assigning UI button for MIDI.

left mouse click on the icon - scroll presets (if already set)
right mouse click -start assigning UI button

  1. Press 1 of the UI button of your VST which switches the presets.

  1. Press any MIDI button or fader/slider to assign this button for MIDI.
Also, you can use the same icons on the top of the window. (left mouse click - scroll presets, right mouse click - restart assigning)

  2. Done! Use your MIDI or icons on the top of the window to scroll the presets!

Hi, I like your idea, still, it basically has one issue. Not all vsts unfortunately expose the preset previous/next to the DAW. This means, that in order to create the function you’re describing, Cubase should get to “learn” the parameters based on the mouse cursor location on the UI. Such automation tasks are usually handled using external apps, but yeah, why not Cubase do this. But, I somehow think it would be much better and simpler if manufacturers just add the functionality of midi learn to their presets’ browsers. Many do already, others don’t.

In your example, we see Diva, which as far as I know (and I did try its settings) doesn’t have midi learn for preset previous/next. Sure, one can go for assigning a mouse click using autoHotKey or other apps.
I did go for an alternative approach. I converted Diva’s presets to vstPresets so that I can exactly browse through them using Cubase standard preset browsing mechanism:

In fact I’ve done this for most of my vsts, since I really like to have a unique browser.
