Just checking whether this is possible yet - It would be great for this to be managed natively by the software. I’ve seen a workaround on another post that says you can add a second (and pitched) instrument to the unpitched percussion player, and switch to that instrument for the duration of the cues, but then you have these instrument/staff changes happening well before the cue arrives, and I get stuck with some odd empty bar rests over the cues even when disabled in engraving rules… Any tips would be appreciated! Maybe there’s a superior workaround.

There have been no functional changes in this area. Your best bet for pitched cues in unpitched instruments is still to place the cues in a pitched instrument, and then hide any instrument change labels and warnings that appear.
