Many times, I want to send a channel from a particular point in the IFX chain because it stops the complexity of eg separate sends to a group track first etc. Its been a bug bear for decades tbh but in the last couple of years I have seen eg MTM Reference, where you can pop a REFSEND plugin anywhere and it sends to the mothership
Im wondering if there are any plugs that are simply eg VST3 plug that can take the plugin inputs and send them to the normal eg groups/fx/sidechain dropdown
This would be immensely valuable. I use a number of DAWs depending on client, Live doesnt do it; Reaper does so simply and Studio One of course has channel splitter and assignable outputs.
You can fudge stuff in IFX for certain things…but its time routing go serious…without it, just so verbose to do simple things
Also some plugs just fail/struggle to get multi pins out of their plugs in cubase yet works in other hosts fine eg
Apulsoft Splits - In Live, you can access the S and non S on separate outputs, Protools = yes, Studio one = yes, Reaper = yes, Cubase = NO…why? I contacted dev because it cant be that hard when all the other hosts work…right?
If I understand what you’re asking for correctly—no, Cubase doesn’t do that. You would either have to use a host plugin (might not be sufficient for your particular needs) or end your insert chain and route to additional channels.
I know it cant be done native…it was super cool when they intro IFX routing (back in SX1 from mem) but never had the ability to send from there…and thats exactly why I need a simple plug in that would do that.
Pretty surprised that it hasnt been done so far (assuming no plugin solutions)…using it on other DAWs makes you really miss it in Cubase
I wont bore with the finer details but over decades of mixing you get the opportunity to do studies and dev your own things. I do mostly recorded stuff and I consider toms and sub bass etc very precious and have workflows for that.
EDIT: I removed the example. Without peeps understanding the need or benefit…no reason to explain it.
Just need plugin > list of channels/SC etc or something explained that I may have missed. Actually wouldnt a dummy plugin with sidechain and input being heard at the same time do it? Any willing plug makers…Id pay for it?
Thats how I started, 1 source channel with nothing on it, routed to various group channels and it works but troubleshooting and overall management is just way too complex vs the way I can do it in other DAWs but Cubase is where most of my experience is…spent a long time here but seems Im outgrowing it lately
I’m all for improved signal routing options. Cubase is fundamentally designed around analog mix console signal flow and although it does it well, I personally feel this paradigm only functions as an unnecessary, self imposed constraint in the realm of digital signal processing.
I did have some of their stuff about 20 years ago I think but not this. I did talk to devs yesterday and they said that within cubase, it doesnt have built in allowances and basically, while you get some access eg MasteringTheMix Reference/Refsend, it is not robust; whilst its ok for monitoring, there is no compensation and a bunch of limitations for actual audio but Ill have a quick look. Cant believe how simple it is in Reaper…but cant work without Control Room which is a bit of a kludge in Reaper.
