Anyone use Musio?

New to Dorico (from Finale) and I have to say, so far I’m liking it. Sure, there are some things that seem “weird” after 30 years in Finale, but overall I like it. One thing that I’m not crazy about are the included sounds. I’m not looking for ultra realistic representations - I know you can purchase expensive libraries to use with Dorico. But with Finale we had GPO5, which did a pretty good job.

Does anyone use the Cine Series by Musio with NPPE? How does it sound. I write a lot a chamber wind music, and the included flute sounds specifically leave me wanting.

You can use GPO5 with Dorico. If you are on Mac, there are some decent Expression Maps available (courtesy of @benwiggy). Unfortunately the latest Aria VST for Windows will not understand these.

You can use the Expression Maps, but not the Playback templates, which contain VST saved states, and have to be the later Mac version of ARIA.

However, I’d argue that Iconica Sketch is much better than GPO5 for general orchestral stuff.

I don’t disagree, but I still have a fondness for GPO solo strings, which are absent from Iconica Sketch

(Thanks for the clarification on maps and templates)

They have a weird ‘hollow’ quality, due to some of the EQ settings. I’m trying to create a better ‘instrument’ from the samples.

My experience: As a NotePerformer user, I tried a Musio subscription with the associated NPPE. I found that many of the Musio samples had a really high noise floor. Not sure if there was an easy fix, but I canceled the subscription (partly an economic decision) and continue to work pretty happily with NP.

Indeed. I have CineSamples (Kontakt) with the NPPE. Musio is just re-packaged versions of these old libraries.

I still like their library CinePerc for some unique percussion sounds but gosh, the noise floor… I was fighting it just last night on their “glass marimba” where you could very audibly hear a sudden noise floor that does not fade out gracefully either. It’s a shame.

Thanks for confirming it wasn’t simply some newb’s error, @wing!
