When starting a new project I see a bar with a tacet. Then as I enter bars the tacet gets shoved along. I am sure this doeds not both some, but I find it awkward, I would rather see say 32 bars of empty stave. Surely this must be possible?

If you want to see 32 individual bars, rather than a 32-bar multi-rest, in Layout Options set Players > Bar Rests and Multi-bar Rests > Consolidate to None.

Thanks, I am not trying to discard multirests, but simply open a project with the same look as a piece of music paper.

By default a Full Score layout does not have multirests enabled, so I guess you must be working on a Part layout?
You can easily disable multirests whilst you do note entry and then enable it later.
