App Icons on macOS for Download Assistant & Library Manager Not Following Human Interface Guidelines

I’ve noticed that some Steinberg apps, such as the Steinberg Download Assistant, Library Manager, and Groove Agent, have app icons on macOS that don’t fully align with Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines. Specifically, the icons appear unusually large and don’t blend well visually with other app icons (like the nice Dorico icon  ).

This makes them stand out in a way that feels a bit inconsistent with the overall macOS user experience. I was wondering if there are any plans to update these app icons in a future release to better align with the macOS guidelines?

Thank you very much for your attention, and best regards,

Yesterday, Apple unveiled an entirely new design language called Liquid Glass, which also brings dynamic changes to app icons — their appearance now adapts based on light, dark, or tinted modes, similar to iOS. Alongside this, Apple introduced a new tool to help developers create app icons that align with this updated visual style.

The Finder icon is hideous.

There was a time when people followed Apple’s design language with good reason.

Today, not so much…

Agreed, the Finder app icon shown in the first developer beta of macOS Tahoe is odd. Nonetheless, the new icon system—with different versions for dark and light modes—is likely here to stay on macOS and iPadOS. Therefore, I think it’s still worth considering how to accommodate it.
