Being an old and loyal Cubase user, and also an old fuser of UAD products I’m tired of issues with my UAD Apollo TWIN USB (since their last updates!), I decided to upgrade my entire system to Mac Studio M2 Max. I know that Apollo TWIN Thunderbolt works very well with mac, but what about Cubase 14? Any special issues? Will UAD plugins be integrated to Cubase 14 on Apple M2 Max?
I also work with SpectraLayers 11 Pro. How does it work on Mac Studio M2 Max? Will it be still integrated in Cubase by ARA protocol? What about VocaLign Pro?
If somebody of you, guys, have an experience, can you share with me?
I use C14 Pro and UAD plugins on a 16"MacBook Pro M2 Max with 64GB Ram and Sequoia 15.3.1 with no problems.
Don’t know about SpectralLayers 11 Pro or VocalLign Pro.
Not sure if this helps being as I don’t have a Mac Studio M2 Max but thought I’d post this info anyway.
Yes, same with MBP M3 Max 128GB and Sequoia 15.3.1. I’ve got 2xApollo x8 + Apollo Twin (Quad). Apollo x8:1 is directly connected via TB4, x8:2 is “daisy chained” from x8:1, and the Twin MkII is “chained” from x8:2 via TB2 adapter. UAD is a bit slow in updating the native UAD drivers, but version 11.5.2 is “mostly stable,” requiring I unplug/replug the primary x8:1 device about once a week as it just stops responding. This has never happened during a session; only after some period of inactivity, or if I get a bit too overzealous with configuration changes with too much going on.
SL11 Pro works flawlessly for me, both standalone and via ARA, as does WL12 Pro, CB14P, and Nuendo 13.
My only issue is Nuendo 13 “duplicates” the “Default” Control Room preset each time I launch it, though CB14P does not. I have an open thread on that, but my presumption is that this will be addressed in N14 pending release.
Also running Dorico Pro 5 without any issues.
Additionally, I have a robust SSL UF1, UF8, UC1 configuration working perfectly integrated with Cubase/Nuendo layers, a LIVE layer, and a UAD Layer integrated with UA Midi Control app.
Multiple external instruments (ARP2600/OB-X8) and external effects (Grace m103), MPE devices (Roli 2, Linnstrument 128) as well as LIVE (or any other external application source) UAD virtual channel I/O.
All running native Apple Silicon mode with more 3rd party plugins than I care to admit.
Addendum: The UAD “plug/unplug” issue only began after the 15.3.x MacOS update FWIW.
Its working beautifully on my M2 Pro, but no clue how it handles the Ultra/Max CPUs.
Those seem to be the ones I run into ‘trouble’ with here at work. Displays and software we make that work great on my M2 Pro at home, the M1’s and Intels I have here in the office, just don’t like something about the Max/Ultra setups. I cringe now when I get a ticket or a call from a Studio user having some trouble calibrating a display, or getting our touch displays to work. Not sure what it is but they just seem a bit more picky about things, at least on my end here.
Then again, I do not work in the audio industry, we just make displays so there’s that…
Me too (that Is using M2 Max laptop with 64gb and C14 and UAD native and dsp plugins)
