apply VST effects only on a region/selection

I don’t know if I understand right :
To apply effects (from master section) only on a region we must make ‘rendre’ (french version) and ‘appliquer en place’ ? Am I wrong ?
but how am I sure that only the region marked was applied and not all the file ?

Because you selected that option in the render dialogue?

When you click in Render, it doesn’t do it straight away, but asks what you want to render (e.g. selection) and how (e.g. in place).
