I’ve searched the forum, documentation, and FAQ. It was mentioned a few years ago that this was a possibility in a future release. I’m hoping that it’s still on the list, because Dorico is now my favorite score editing software, and exporting to XF format would greatly simplify my workflow. It will be great to have the extra chord information available in the MIDI file. Thank you!
Welcome to the forum, @jcgam. I’d be interested to learn more about your workflow, and what having support for XF would enable you to do. Thanks!
I’m filling my Genos 2 with MIDI versions of sheet music, creating a self-contained music library that I can use to practice by displaying the scores on-screen. I tried a wide variety of PDF to XML converters, and they all make mistakes, and since Dorico is such a joy to use to write music, I’m converting them all manually. I save the scores to XML and load them in Notation Composer to export to MIDI that includes XF. It’s the only software available for this purpose to my knowledge. There are several problems with this workflow. I’m on a Mac, and Notation Composer is Windows-only, and I usually need to make adjustments and re-export to get acceptable results. If I could export the XF version directly from Dorico, it would greatly simplify my workflow. Given the high quality of the Dorico user interface, I’m sure the exported version would be of high quality as well. Thanks for asking!
Which specific XF features are you able to make use of on your Genos?
Lyrics for singing, and chords, which gives me flexibility to sometimes focus on the melody while the keyboard plays the chords from the XF MIDI file. Nuendo supports XF format, correct? I realize that may be a completely different team.
Thanks for confirming.
