Are there "style sheets" in Dorico

I’m in a trial period with Dorico Pro now, considering a move from Musescore, for various reasons. One thing I like about Musescore is the ability to load a “style sheet” to get a completely different look with different “fonts”, sort of like the attached file.

Does Dorico have a feature like this?

This is mostly just a change of font; and most of Dorico’s Paragraph Styles ‘cascade’ from the Default style.

Dorico comes with several handwritten text and music fonts to make it look like you were up all night copying parts.

You can also use Project template files, and the Library Manager to transfer settings from one document to the next.

@benwiggy It’s actually more than just text fonts. Many other aspects are also part of the “music font”, such as notehead styles, the look of repeats, etc. That’s how you can get sort of a “jazz lead sheet” or “real book” look, instead of the look you’d get buying a typical “Beatles songbook” or whatever.

Would the approach be to try customizing all of those other items individually, and would the appropriate customizations be available?

Looking back on the example I sent, I’ve realized that it doesn’t show some of these other variations, this might be a better example …

You can use the Library Manager to copy settings and options from one document to another.

And you can save a project template file, from which to start new documents.

Did you see the update to the previous reply where I added another file @benwiggy

You can also export all of the settings for the current document to a library file, and then use the Library Manager to import them into other documents.

The suggestions that @benwiggy and I made will let you reuse any or all of your settings in a project file.

  • Saving as a project template will let you start a new document that shares the exact look of another one.
  • Exporting a library file will export all of the settings from your current file, and the Library Manager will then let you import some or all of them into another document. (I think this is very close to style sheets.)
  • You can also use the Library Manager to copy settings directly from one project file to another.

These are all useful replies, but no one mentioned that there is “Music Fonts” selection in the Library menu that addresses my question about the fonts that aren’t paragraph fonts. Probably people were confused that I didn’t already know this.

The Music Font called Finale Jazz seems to work fine.
