I’m trying to arpeggiate chords that extend from bass stave to treble stave on piano. But when I select all the notes in a chord and click the arpeggio sign, separate arpeggios are created for the bass and treble staves .
I can put an arpeggio on just one stave and then stretch it to the other stave in Engrave mode. But the change doesn’t show in Write mode and the playback doesn’t arpeggiate.
Stretching the arpeggio sign in Engrave Mode will only result in a visual adjustment, not affecting the ‘real’ meaning.
Instead, try selecting the entire chord (shift-click) on both staves in Write Mode, and then apply the arpeggio. It now will really (i.e. musically significant) run over both staves.
A @Janus points out, this is an essential difference between changes made in Write Mode vs. Engrave mode.
Hi @Engelbach, in case your project comes from an XML import, it can be that (as @Janus pointed out) you have a treble and a bass staff resembling a Piano but is not a Piano (it can happen with XML imports that the instrument assignment is not well specified in the XML file). It is generally advisable (with XML imports) to check the instruments and eventually reassign them in Dorico. You can obtain this just changing the instrument and assigning (in your case) a Piano to it .
Here a visual guide for the first steps (in the instrument-picker you then choose Piano in the Keyboard family):
