Artefakt Guitar synchronization issue?

Hello, I am an (simple) user of Cubase, but after I bought some weeks ago the instrument: “Artefakt Guitar” I have an issue:

Gear I use:

  • Cubase 14 Elements version 14.0.40.369
  • Halion Sonic 7 version: 7.1.340.846
  • Laptop I7 10th gen. 32GB internal memory and a 3070 RTX video card.
  • Keyboard input is an external Yamaha Tyros 4 connected via USB.
  • Audio interface Yamaha AG 06

Issue:
When I choose a preset and I play the track in SOLO, it starts to strum at the right first tone

When all other (recorded) tracks are unmuted and I play/record the Artefakt track, then the strum starts not from position one, but from position 5. Which of course is out of sync with the rest.

I have an image attached

Any suggestions?

Kind regards,

Bart

I’ve only experimented a little with Artefakt Guitar to date, but you may want to check out section 10 (“Settings Window”) of the user manual with respect to the pattern switching and pattern retrigger settings. Possibly experimenting with these settings may make a difference in this area.

Thnx, I will try to do that

I tried the settings window and tried all settings of the pattern switching and pattern, but no result.

I’ll see if I can experiment with it later once I’ve got Cubase up. Just reading the manual in that section and what you’re suggesting you’re wanting versus what is happening, I’d think the Free pattern retrigger mode would be what you want to start the pattern exactly where you play it, and the switching would depend on what you want to happen when you are switching the note to a different pattern. For example, if you want it to start the next pattern right away, probably Immediate would be the one you’d want.

These loop-based instruments can sometimes be challenging to get to sync up the way you want them, and some just don’t do it right period, unless your use matches certain assumptions the instrument makes. (NI’s Session Percussionist is one of those, where non-even numbers of measures will make it hard to use it – the first time I tried to use it I had to abandon it and use Shimmer Shake Strike 2, which isn’t as rigid in its assumptions and also allows you to copy its patterns to a track as MIDI so you can edit from there. My “sin” was having an extra measure in song sections for emphasis.)

Thanks for helping me, but today when I did some experiments, I also had a delay (during playing with other already recorded tracks) when pressing the first key (on my keyboard) to start the sequence. What I mean is that I touched the key (on my keyboard) and with a delay of about half a second (my guess) before the pattern was starting to play. This delay was not always but depending of the preset I choose.

By the way, it seems that I am not the only one with this problem:

Okay, I just did some quick tests in my current project. When I set it as follows:

That is, “free” for the pattern retrigger and “immediate” for pattern switching, I can even play it (sort of) melodically. That is, it triggers from the start of the pattern on every note, albeit running through as much of the pattern after that as how long you hold the note down dictates.

If I switch to “clock”, the pattern gets aligned with my project’s timing. So, for example, I started one note at the start of a measure, but then started the next note at the second beat of the following measure, so the first note of that second pattern started farther back in the pattern.

I also played with various other combinations, some of which where ones I wasn’t sure what to expect on, but pretty much all the ones where I had a result I expected seemed in line with my expectations.

I should the song I was trying this in was 4/4, and it looks like this pattern (Standard Rock) is a measure long with sixteenth note steps (albeit with the steps in the actual pattern all lasting an eighth note).

Thanks for this explanation, I will try this tomorrow and tell you what my experience was!
