Here is a summary of what I have decided to do regarding this topic.
I decided to go with the slashes plus cues method for the drum part. I like that it has a convenient measure numbering tool for the drummer, and I have figured out some practices that make it fairly easy to accomplish.
As far as the articulations are concerned, I found it fairly simple to select the cue notes in Engrave Mode, then hit “Reset Position” under the Edit menu. This always placed the articulations on the stem side of the cued rhythms.
I also enabled “Show Cues” in the Full Score Layout, and I found it extremely easy to hide the cues in parts where I didn’t want to see the cues. In fact, I could just select all the signposts of the cues I wanted to hide and hide them at once with “Hide” in the “Cues” section of the properties panel.
