Hi everyone,
I’m new to Cubase and so I know this question is going to seem very rudimentary, but I’m just having the time of my life trying to figure this out. I’ve been looking up solutions, asking AI, etc but every time I feel like I’m getting somewhere, I hit a roadblock.
How can I set up multiple different articulations/techniques to be played by the same instrument on the same track? Is this even worth the effort or should I have separate tracks set up for different articulations? I’m using Spitfire Orchestra and I’m particularly talking about instruments that don’t have the label “all techniques”. For example, all my brass instruments are set up into several different articulations and there aren’t any that have all of them built in. I understand how to use expression maps for the others.
But my troubleshooting rabbit hole taught me to set all of the different articulations up on the same track, switch the channel in inspector to “any” and then manually change the channel for each note that you want played with a different articulation. The problem with that is that I was getting a message saying “ramps/curves not supported for tracks with channels set to ‘any’”. So I was getting all kinds of playback issues with expression curves.
So for another work around, I learned to set articulations up in the expression map and then use that to switch the channel for different articulations. But again, I was getting all kinds of playback issues like midi notes getting stuck or just not playing.
AI even created a script for me to put into Kontakt player to use keyswitches to change channels to each articulation. But that just straight up did nothing.
So I want to just come out and ask: is this something I can actually do without running into all kinds of hurdles or is it better to just have separate tracks? I’d rather not do that so that my instrument list isn’t cluttered but I’m not sure what the solution is.
What is everyone else’s workflow like?
