Artificial Harmonics playback tip

Until the Dorico software fix on Artificial Harmonics playback is implemented I have found a workaround for artificial harmonics playback of common practice notation: touch 4 diamond notehead.

I am using Kontakt Cremona Quartet VST instruments. I find that sometimes artificial harmonics do playback. If they don’t, press the chords button in the Notes toolbox on the left to add (usually touch 4) interval on the stem. Then change that notehead to a diamond. In the Playing technique panel select the circle harmonics symbol. In the properties panel, under Playing Techniques, choose Hidden.

Whether or not artificial harmonics play back is solely due to the range of the patch you’re using.

If the patch contains notes high enough, it will play back when you select the harmonics property for the note(s).

If the patch range does not reach those notes, they will not sound.

Thanks, hautboisbaryton. What I have found is that your solution applies to harmonics, but artificial harmonic behave differently in Dorico. The instrument makes the correct sound when clicking on the note which indicates that it has the range to play it, yet when playing back, there is silence. Mechanically building the artificial harmonic is a reliable way to have playback. The Dorico team have stated on other posts that it is not working yet.
