Here I can rate any presets with 1 to 5 stars, and I can press the record shortcut whenever, to record something.
When using Arturia Pigments, I can use my record shortcut to record something, but only if I am in its main interface. If I am in the Explore mode, then pressing my record shortcut does nothing, which is pretty annoying.
By “Explore mode” I mean the interface that shows all the presets as a list, kind of like Steinberg’s MediaBay. You enter that list menu by clicking the icon marked with green in the picture below:
Talking about the “R” shortcut or even the “*” one, right? I couldn’t replicate this on Pigments 6.01, so I’ve just updated to 6.03, just to check if I could replicate it. Still works fine here, Win11.
(EDIT: Actually, this step does not matter as it happens with any key) Bind the Record function in Cubase to Num0
Open Pigments on the active track using the “Edit VST Instrument” hotkey
Click on the books icon in Pigments to go to the preset list / Explorer menu
Click on any preset on the list and press the down/up arrow to go to the next/previous preset
Press your Record key to start recording
Does it work?
For me it does not work when I press the Record key for the first time. But when I press it the second time, it works.
This breaks my workflow, because I browse through presets using arrow keys, playing on my midi keyboard to see what a preset sounds like. And finally if I got something good going, I like to press Record and play something to record it.
But then I see that nothing is recorded and I have to resort to Retrospective Record feature. I could just press Record twice, but I don’t want to establish this habit, because it would be counteractive, when using Steinberg’s VSTs or other VSTs that don’t create this problem.
I have Cubase 13 Pro on Win 10 - not sure if this matters, though. But if you do experience the same roadblock as me, I will have to explain this to Arturia support and hope that they’ll fix it.
Confirmed. After pressing dn/up arrows, no key is working immediately. Pigments is consuming the key events. However, if you first press for e.g. Ctrl, then shortcuts will work. It’s just the normal keys that are consumed. I suspect it’s a left-over, probably they were planning to add some quick search in the list using the keys.
I think I’ll make a a simple AHK script for Cubase.
So when I press the Record shortcut, then the script will press the Control key first, and then the Record shortcut.
At least, this will serve as a workaround - for now.
This is what works for me, so far (AutoHotkey Version 1):
Numpad0::
Sleep, 100 ; short delay before the sequence (adjust if needed)
Send, {LCtrl down} ; press and hold Left Control
Sleep, 100 ; brief hold
Send, {LCtrl up} ; release Left Control
Sleep, 100 ; short pause before pressing Num0
Send, {Numpad0} ; press Num0
return
