ASIO licensing question for a commercial application using NAudio

Hello,

We are developing a commercial Windows Forms application that captures audio input through ASIO.

Our application uses NAudio (NAudio.Asio) to communicate with ASIO drivers installed on the user’s Windows PC.

Our understanding of the implementation is as follows:

  • Our application does not directly use the Steinberg ASIO SDK.
  • We do not include or distribute the Steinberg ASIO SDK, its source code, headers, or other SDK files with our application.
  • ASIO support in our application is implemented through the NAudio library.
  • The application communicates with ASIO drivers that are already installed on the user’s PC.

Based on this implementation, we understand that our application does not require an ASIO SDK license agreement with Steinberg.

Could you please confirm whether this understanding is correct?

Specifically, does Steinberg require an ASIO SDK license agreement for a commercial application that supports ASIO through NAudio but does not directly use or distribute the Steinberg ASIO SDK?

For reference, we intend to use the term “ASIO” in the application’s user interface and documentation, but not in the product name, and we do not intend to use the ASIO logo.

Thank you for your assistance.
