Assign Default MIDI sounds?

Hi,

I’m wondering if there is a way to assign what instrument/sound set etc. will be used when importing a MIDI file.

When I write an orchestral piece, I find it easier to start in Sibelius and then once I have the ‘content’ as it were, import into Cubase to make it actually sound good. This currently comes with the rather laborious step of copying each track from the default Halion Sonic tracks to the Kontakt instruments I want to use. I was wondering if there’s a way to tell Cubase which VST and library I want for certain MIDI instruments. So if Sibelius gives me a part marked “trumpet” I want Cubase to slap that onto The Orchestra Complete’s Trumpet_all_articulations within Kontakt.

Is there some way to do this?

Hi,

Unfortunately, there is no way. You can use HALion Sonic SE only (as Instrument tracks or as Rack Instrument) or a “plain” MIDI tracks which you would route to the wanted instrument later.
