Assigning knobs midi controller to VST instrument issues

Hello,

I am trying to assign the 8 knobs from my midi instrument to the VST - instruments in Cubase.

I managed to assign the knobs (zie picture below) through de midi - remote and it works like a charm in the first VST instrument.

So far, so good. But: when I open a second VST instrument on the 2nd channel; the knobs arent working anymore. I can play the instrument, record the audio but the knobs arent moving. Yet, at channel 1 they are still working.

I set the midi - remote on G (global) so it should be working on every project.

What am I missing here?

Hi,

We have 3 Quick Controls types in Cubase:

  • Track Quick Controls: Based on the track. This is what you are using. On another track, you have to make another assignment, based on the new track.
  • VST Quick Controls: Based on the VST. So you could create another MIDI Track, if it’s routed to the same VST, you can use it.
  • Focus Quick Controls: They are based on the plug-in window, which is currently in focus.

I want to use the same QC configuration on every VST instrument I use. How do I manage that? These are my first steps into using Cubase :slight_smile:

Hi,

You would need to set the instrument (create a preset) to provide the same set of Quick Controls. Then you will control the Quick Controls 1-8 from your hardware.

Hello,

It looks like my midi controller is ‘stuck’ in channel 1. When I open the VST - instrument in channel 2 or 3; the knobs arent moving. But when I go back to channel 1; the knobs have moved. So it keeps sending messages to the VST instrument in channel 1, even when I am in a VST instrument in another channel. How do I fix that?

In Midi Remote you can use the Focus Quick Controls. They will give you access to eight parameters. those eight parameters should then automatically be the same for every Halion Sonic that you use.

I thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiink I figured it out.

The knob assignment was intrument based and not track focused. When I set al the knobs on track focused I it works on every VST instrument.

To be honest; it feels quit fragile. When i closed Cubase and started it again; it still worked fine. Trying it another time; it wasnt working anymore.
