So I was told to look into making ATMOS mixes and went down a rabbit hole. I was told that some platforms are requiring it now.
I watched a lot of good videos on how to do an ATMOS mix with Cubase, but it feels like a “virtual” way of doing it when you don’t have a set up. Which it fine, but none of them cover mastering and how to check your mix afterwards. Which is weird to me.
I’ve done a lot of mixes now with the binaural setting, but how do they really sound in an ATMOS system. No idea. Are they loud enough? I’ve kept them at -18 because one video mentioned it. But they’re made from unmastered stems.
I’ve spent a lot of time and it feels like no one knows what to do with the ADM file when it’s done.
Honestly, for film it sounds cool, but the film’s final mixer should be doing the ATMOS mix, right?
Why are people asking producers, songwriters, and composers to send in an ATMOS mix? I’m all for learning new skills, but it feels like I’m just guessing here. Just send in the ADM file with the stems and stereo mix? Weird.
Curious if anyone out there can shed some light on where the ATMOS mixes fit in the grand scheme of things.
