Attached dotted Notes

Attached dotted notes cannot be written with ties (see picture attached). You have to make do with slurs. Or have I overlooked something?

You can always notate whatever rhythm you want in Dorico, correctly – no need to use slurs pretending to be ties!

If the dotted crotchet becomes a crotchet tied to a quaver itself when you tie the preceding semiquaver, that’ll be due to Dorico recalculating the note because it’s now a single note, starting at the end of the previous bar.

If you created the dotted note here by using Force Duration, perhaps first go to Notation Options > Note Grouping, and check that you can’t tell all such dotted notes that are followed by a rest to appear as dotted, not tied.

If you intend to input another note immediately after the dotted crotchet, perhaps wait and see what happens when you input that note: some durations differ according to whether the note is followed by a note or rest.

Dear Lillie,
I am very happy to receive such a well-founded answer, even on a Saturday. Thank you very much for that! I had made a mistake with the notation options.
