Attaching dynamic marking not at the beginning of a long note in write mode

Hi,

In order to prevent re-triggering of long notes (which happens if you join eg: 2 semibreves with a tie) I use the alt-shift-right arrow combination which works great.

Downside of this approach is if you want to put dynamics somewhere along the note -eg: a diminuendo near the end to show that the note should die away.

Is it possible in write mode or is this an Engrave mode only thing?

(In Write mode) position the caret where you want the dynamic to begin. Use SHIFT + D + > + RETURN/ENTER to start the diminuendo. (At this point you will see nothing.) Then press the Space Bar to extend the dynamic.
