Hi. New to Cubase and for now I am just playing with importing stereo audio files. When importing I am selecting the option to split the tracks. By default Cubase pans both the left and right tracks to the center, killing any stereo separation. I figured out that I could change the output routing to route left to left and right to right. Is there any way to have Cubase do this automatically when importing an audio file? Or is there a better way to automatically have left be on the left and right be on the right?
Is there any particular reason you’re choosing to split the stereo audio into separate tracks?
When you split them, you’re creating two new mono tracks–one for L, and one for R. They’re panned to center because that’s the expected default for a mono track.
You could just pan the L to the left, and the R to the right. There’s no need to involve routing.
Yes–don’t split the track. It’s better to just import stereo audio to stereo tracks, unless you have some clear need to split them.

Do you absolutely need to split the imported stereo track and, if so, what’s the idea behind it ?
Importing a stereo file without spliting it allows to have the exact same stereo image as the original (if you asked for a new version, as I usually do).
