Please can I ask about audio routing?
I’m unsure what the “song” fader is for and how the default routing works. I’ve marked up a picture to help:
I have created nine subgroups and have four outputs on my audio interface.
I had assumed that the routing would be:
Tracks to Subgroups to Outputs
What is the Song fader for?
I tried using it as a subgroup, which worked fine, but when I updated to 2.0.23. I had no audio and had to go back through every channel, re-patching the routing.
If I’m using subgroups, would it be best to ignore the song track completely?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Charlie
P.S. For my workflow, it would be great if the song fader acted like a VCA for the track channels. That way,I could use it to attenuate each song so they all register the same loudness on an LU meter, but still output through subgroups (for mute and solo) and discrete audio outputs to the PA.
The song channel works best, if you only use one stereo out for your instruments and mix it with globals like vocals to the main out. In this common setup, there is no need for additional groups. But yes, you can replace it with a song group. Maybe its also historical, as the song channel exists long before song groups were implemented.
By default, newly created audio tracks, and plugins for newly created MIDI tracks are routed to the Song Group Channel. However, this is just a routing aid, you are free to route tracks to other Groups, or Outputs.
Cannot reproduce that.
Do you still have a project that does not load well in 2.0.23? If so, would you mind to send it to us, just the .vlprj file?
There are no VCA Groups in VST Live, but you can use the Song Group like any other Group. It is local to the Song, obviously. To attenuate all channels of a specific Song, route everything to that Channel (or, a Song Group).
