Audio setup is a pain

I update cubase each year thinking i’ll be able to figure out how to set up the audio out. Why are there so many drivers? I dont know which one to choose. I usually give up after an hour and go back to FL studio where there’s one button setup. just not getting the support i need here.

This is your first post so you haven’t asked anyone for help. Yet, you say that you don’t get the help you need here? Great entrance :top_hat: - I give you that.

Setting up a Cubase system just takes a few clicks and there are many tutorials out there. What have you tried so far?

It also took me an hour to figure out what was happening. Turns out the control room had inactive outputs. Now that I know there will be no more not knowing.

FLS has a one button setup because it can only do one thing.

That‘s it. When you chose a simple product that can do just one thing then it‘s easy to do a setup with just one parameter.

If you chose a product with high flexibility and many options, you will have to spend some time to learn and then configure to your needs.

Cubase ist very flexible and customizable and maybe the audio interface as well.

With concrete informations about the system setup it might be easy to help.

The driver you choose depends on your audio interface (if you use one).

  • If you do not use one, you can use the Steinberg ASIO driver (Windows) or Core Audio (macOS) drivers.

General guideline:

If you need help with an issue, please provide your system details, Cubase version and error dump file (if applicable)

Setting up audio in Cubase / Nuendo

  1. Select Studio > and then Studio Setup.
  2. In the Devices list, select Audio System.
  3. Open the ASIO Driver pop-up menu and select your audio hardware driver.
  4. Click Switch to confirm your choice.

There are multiple ways to set up audio, Cubase is quite flexible but the above steps should help you.

Now if you use Control Room, the steps would be a little different.

Ok let’s say you have an external audio interface, Cubase will detect it through their drivers so then you will have to choose which hardware Cubase will have to work with. And here your choices

  1. your internal audio so then their drivers.

  2. your external audio interface provided by their drivers (ASIO)

  3. Steinberg ASIO

  4. optionally ASIO4ALL

Choose which hardware is the best for you and then their drivers. External audio card should be the choice so then their ASIO.

Then be sure input - output are properly set in studio connections.
