When entering notes in a region that is affected by a Playing Technique, would it be possible to audition that technique (which will match what it’ll sound like on playback) rather than the init/natural sound (same would apply for selecting those notes)?
My use case: I use the banjo, ukulele, and mandolin from Project SAM’s Swing! and Swing! More libraries. They have separate patches for strums/grooves where you choose the chord by pressing a specific note depending on the octave, e.g., all the major chords are in one octave, the minor chords are in another, etc.
Because I don’t use those instruments often enough to memorize which octave is which, my current workarounds:
If I want to test what I am playing before entering it (select the track or measure without going into note entry mode), I can either:
switch over to the instrument (which is currently hosted in Vienna Ensemble Pro), change the patch (which here involves setting it to channel 1), and solo it.
or change the channel of the instrument on the Play page
Or, if I want to test after entering, I’d just play it back.
Hi @alexcap, it is working for me (I hope that my shown case is similar to what you are trying to obtain, but maybe your instrument works differently):
Possibly you could check that the Playback technique used by your Playing Technique is set as Direction (for the Articulation type), so it will last till the next Playing technique is chosen, and as you see works also during note input:
in my example (using Note performer with its Expression map): pizz. Playing Technique uses Pizzicato Playback technique (that is set on Direction):
I took VEP out of the equation, started from an empty Lead Sheet project, and made 2 examples. In one, I use keyswitches and in the other, channel changes. For the keyswitches, I had to include Note Off events because the patch’s keyswitches are latching. If I don’t include Note Off events, the keyswitches layer, playing spicc with legato. If I change the keyswitches to non-latching, then there is no sound during input because it’s as if there are no keyswitches being pressed at all.
I also tried clearing the init settings for the Expression Map, but that didn’t change anything. I also tried it with a patch from VSL’s Synchron player with the same results.
