Dear friends, in Finale, there was a very usefol tool for to make augmentations or diminutions of rhythms by 1 click, f.e. to transform [half note - quarter note - quarter note - half note] to [quarter note - eigth note - eight note - quarter note] or 6 eigth triplet notes to 6 sixteenth triplet. Is a tool like that also in Dorico 6, or will it rise in later updates?
Dorico has Write > Edit Duration > Halve Note Duration (and Double Note Duration), but there are caveats to its use. It works best in insert mode, it doesn’t deal with tuplets, and it doesn’t move any attached items like tempos or dynamics.
This does not actually work as a diminution when I try it. The quarter notes become eighth notes with a rest. So this is not compressing the rhythm. Is it a problem because the notes have lyrics?
Welcome to the forum.
You need have Insert Mode ON if you want to avoid the rests.
(Edit durations does exactly what it says - it changes the duration of notes!. Also be aware you will get unexpected results if there are tuplets in your selection. These need to be removed and then replaced)
Thank you. I didn’t realize insert voice is insert mode.
(It is not exactly). Insert mode has four different scopes which determine what will be affected by the insert action and how. It is well worth experimenting to see how they each work.
