I used Nuendo’s auto-fade and auto-crossfade features, but the fade handles did not appear as expected. This makes me suspect that there might be an issue with my settings, even though I’ve read the user manual on auto-fading and confirmed that my setup aligns with the instructions. How can I resolve this frustrating problem? Or is manually dragging the fade handles the only way to confirm if it’s working?

Nuendo’s Auto Fades is designed to not show any fades or crossfades on events.
You just set it up and trust that it is doing its job.
If you do a manual fade or crossfade, the autofade will be overridden in that specific case.
Autofades is not designed to be a “default fade” in the sense that it would create adjustable fades on everything. It’s designed to be in the background silently working to smoothen the transitions between events and save you some work by getting rid of a good amount of pops and clicks that would otherwise need attention.
