It seems auto saving is currently done in the main application thread which results in long freezes with bigger projects. To be able to keep working without the main thread getting blocked, auto save should happen in another thread in the background.
I’ve also had this issue since Cubase 8 Pro on both Mac and Windows systems

It would be great to see this remedied in future updates.
As it is, I don’t think I should tag it as an issue, since this is not a ‘bug’ and auto saving works as expected. It’s a request to change the implementation of auto saving in Cubase.
Oh man this would be so nice. So nice. Save times are atrocious on large projects.
