Auto Trim deleted automation on track with previous virgin territory

Sorry for the long title.

By accident I had left VT on after I tested something. I wrote automation with it on, discovered the mistake and then turned it off. I wrote automation “to end” to get it back to where it usually is. I then proceeded as usual and everything was fine until today when I reopened the project.

Here is the track with the automation when I started work today:

After I engage Touch & Trim the following happens:

For the image I took the track out of “Trim” so you can see what happens. The track reverts to “virgin territory” at the point where I started by error yesterday. So it completely deletes all automation written back to that point. It happens as soon as I enter write by touching the fader. The same does not happen if I don’t use trim.

Troubleshooting attempts:

If I copy all automation and paste it back after this happens the behavior still continues then next time I’m using “Trim”.

Copying all events to a different track does not solve the problem.

Close / reopen doesn’t help.

Close / quit / reboot computer doesn’t.

Resaving with different name doesn’t help.

Works: Copying all events after yesterday’s last written automation to a new track and continuing from there. Only “clean” events copied to a new track will work as usual.

I tried to reproduce in an empty, new project and failed. Hence not marked “issue” yet.

Has anyone experienced this?

No, don’t remember experiencing this. Does seem like the particular sequence of events led to the glitch (possibly related to the virgin territory toggle and saving of particular project). Maybe see if you can and break it again with a test project and same series of maneuvers you made.

Thanks, yeah, I think it’s project specific perhaps. I tried to recreate it a few different ways and failed. It’s very, very weird.

if i am reading the name of audio file correctly , i would recomend deleting Rachael, because 374 episodes is to much for any character

as for automation issue, i have no idea

Fortunately stuff like this doesn’t go “through” all numbers.

There’s nothing quite like failing at trying to fail a failure….Glitches like this are strange, I agree.
