Automatic placement of end dynamic is offset

When I input certain dynamics, such as the ones in the attached photos, the end dynamic is offset. I did the following each time:

select the notes
shift+D
type desired dynamic and enter

To re-allign I press shift+alt+back arrow TWICE, because the first time the end dynamic moves further to the right. What gives? Especially why the initial offset?

I’m not sure what’s going on here. If I try what you do, I get this:

dynamics placement

Hi @piping_hot_licks, I cannot also replicate your issue: with default settings all works as expected.

Can you check your Engraving Options, in particular those marked with the red squares? (in my screenshot you can see the factory values). And see if you don’t have any overrides in the properties panel.
If this doesn’t help, please upload your project.

With factory settings:

Options are factory, like yours. This happens in other projects too, so I have created attached a file with the problem.

Set this Preference if you don’t like this behaviour:

(It’s a program preference, incidentally, not a project-specific one.)

Thanks! Why would this be in general preferences and not engraving preferences with the rest of the dynamic info?

Because it’s to do with where dynamics are semantically attached during input, not the graphical representation.

If you read what the preference says, hopefully you can understand that what you were seeing on the page was effectively an offset to the left, where you’d assumed it was one to the right.

Hmmm… I’ll take your word for it!
